Welcome

today you have arrived at Bigskstory - the story of Bigskyorld

The fact that you have arrived at all, is a good sign, because Bigskyworld is not for everyone.

.

How big is Bigskyworld

First of all – Bigskyworld is a huge place with  dozens of small floating islands. Well, more than dozens, since no one really knows how many islands there are in Bigskyworld – or even how big Bigskyworld, is .. or where Bigskyworld ends .. or  even if it has an end !

low gravity

One thing you will notice right away about Bigkyworld ..  compared to our world there is almost no gravity, so the islands in Bigskyworld float around freely in space.

This has a peculiar effect.

What was higher, can become lower and  what was lower, can become  higher – what was  to the left, can become to the right .. and what you thought was on your right, can the next day, be found on the left.

So sometimes it’s difficult to know where you are, even if you have what is known as ” a good sense of direction “

.

This means of course Bigskyworld is a very interesting place to be.

.

effect on the mind

The lack of gravity also leads to a certain lightness in the head .. a relaxed state of mind .. and a tendency to drift though the day.

In fact if people are not mindful about what they are  doing, their likely to find themselves gently lifting off the ground.

This  tends to happen when peoples minds are empty of thoughts.

It  can be a pleasant experience im told .. but a bit disconcerting when you want to get things done.

effect on the animals

The animals and wild beasts are particularly affected by this.

when wild beasts doze of ..  they gently lift off the ground and drift skyward, like a  slow balloon.

In the  days that follow, the animals  have  to find their way back down to Animal Heaven, their home on the lower levels, but more about that later.

gossip about Bigskyworld

People who don’t understand Bigskyworld sometimes say the  inhabitants are crazy, perhaps even dangerous.

But it’s simply not the  case. It’s true the lack of gravity has led to some odd behaviours, but to say the residents are crazy and that Bigskyworld is dangerous .. is just going too far. No one in Bigskyworld is dangerous.

However there is one ” nuisance ” character and you will meet him soon enough. He’s not dangerous at all, nor is he evil. But he does have special powers,  and when he’s in a playful mood and wants to have fun, he can be quite a nuisance.

growing and changing

Bigskyworld is very large, plus it’s growing all the time.

It’s not clear whether it’s actually growing , or the newly discovered places were there all the time . Those of us who study Bigskyworld just don’t  know.  In my opinion .. Bigskyworld is growing and changing.

.

Umbrella jumping

the light gravity did bring about a very popular pastime in Bigskyworld .. Umbrella jumping.

Folks would climb to very high places, jump off  clutching their umbrellas, and drift slowly down to the lower levels. However it is so easy to do, most folks grew tired of it.

Some of the smaller critters still love it however, and they go umbrella jumping every day. Its part of the fun on living in Bigskyworld.

People and critters like to have fun and have a laugh, during their day.

Amazing days and nights

There are the amazing days, and sometimes nights – when the skies seem to be raining animals.

These are the times when large numbers of  wild beasts, having drifted to higher levels, can be seen parachuting back down to the lower levels.

They are in fact making their way back to Animal Heaven, which is a very large island the animals love, and their natural home.

Animal heaven is a very important place and needs to be protected. But more about that later.

.

When the skies are raining animals, it is indeed an awesome sight, and very popular with the tourists.

One never knows exactly when it’s going to happen though , so you have to be lucky to see it. Many a tourist has gone home disappointed.

.

the awesome Long Bird

Then of coursebthere’s the ever present and awesome Long bird.

Everyone can see Long bird every day.

He is very very tall and can be seen for miles, standing quietly in the distance on his small island, like a silent sentinel.

Some folks say Longbird is the oldest living creature in Bigskyworld… and they say he has secret knowledge ..

He understands things about Bigskyworld, that no one else knows.

Every now Longbird does dissapear,  but only for a day or two. People say at these times, he is away feeding. But he always returns.

If you approach Long Bird to have a word,  He wont answer you. He simply goes on  silently observing all of Bigskyworld from his lofty perch.

So although everyone can see him, the odd thing is, no one really knows much  about him.

the Longbird dance

Every now and then,  on a still and silent night, the Longbird begins  a slow rhythmic dance.

His  dancing  sends out deep vibrations throughout the whole of Bigskyworld, making it difficult to sleep.

Sometimes he will dance for hours. Then he stops . gives out a deep sigh, and returns to his silent observing.

No one knows why.

visitors

Bigskyworld attract the curious of course.

Tourists arrive in rocket-ships with their cameras. They love to dine in the  alfresco restaurants, and take photos  of  Bigskyworld from the balconies.

Then there are the hikers. climbers, artists, scientists and adventurers.

.

introducing Jo and Newton

Jo and Newton are two such adventurers  and you will see them often in this story . It is through their journey,  we  learn more about Bigskyworld.

.

Jo

is wonderful little girl. She is adventurous, resourceful, curious, playful, energetic, .. and importantly, she is absolutely without fear.

Which is a very unusual way to be.

She will go any where – do anything – and approach any wild beast.

Her disarming and charming manner, usually wins them over.

.

Newton

her dog ( named after the famous Isaac ) would rather have stayed home.

In Newton’s opinion, Jo is a little reckless and does dangerous things. He loves Jo however. JO is his life and he must be with her every day. He would never let her to go off go adventuring, all alone.

Newton believes it’s his life long duty to look after Jo.  In reality, most of the time  it’s Jo who looks after Newton. But we would never tell him so, in case we hurt his feelings.

.

the adventure begins

Our  story begins when Jo and Newton arrive in BigskyWorld for the first time. It’s their biggest adventure ever and they have no idea what is ahead of them .
